I started working on a case about six weeks ago for a young woman I met online who was looking for help with her family lines. Her mother had been in foster care as a child and didn’t have much information about her family. She was also told by her mother that her father had passed away, at his own hand, many years ago. Through my research I was able to locate Her mother’s family information although tracking down her grandmother has proven difficult. I was also able to verify that the man who her mother stated was her Father, was not her Father at all. Her Mother was very tight lipped and said nothing more to her about her birth Father when confronted with this information.
I was able to identify four brothers who could possibly have been her birth father, based on her DNA match to a 91-year-old woman. I was able to give her enough information about the brothers that when her mother was pressed with some names, did state that she dated a man by the name of one of the brothers at the time of her daughters conception. Unfortunately he no longer lived in the area, but she was able to reach out to her pastor who reached out to his pastor in another state who got in touch with him with the information. She was given her father‘s phone number and reached out to him today, nervous of how things might go. Much to her surprise both he and his wife welcomed her with open arms and are looking forward to meeting her and introducing her to her 91-year-old DNA match, her grandmother. She also has a half brother.
She told me today that she’s never had a grandparent, her whole life, and now her kids have a great grandparent which is wonderful. I love when a story has a happy ending and I’m so glad to have been able to put this family together.
